Qualifications:
Acceptable report from criminal history inquiry
Valid Texas Commercial Drivers License Class B with “P” and “S” endorsements or training will be provided.
Acceptable driving record as obtained from the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS)
Must pass pre-employment drug test.
Must pass pre-employment annual State DOT required physical examination.
Must pass annual FMCSA DOT required drug and alcohol test.

Age 25 or older, unless pre-approved by insurance underwriters

Successfully complete twenty (20) hour Texas DPS School Bus Driver Certification Course
within first six months of employment
Attend and successfully complete triennial eight (8) hour refresher Texas DPS School Bus Driver Certification Course.
Special Knowledge/Skills
Ability to read, understand and communicate in English.
Ability to complete required bus driver safety training.
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
Ability to manage student behavior.
Ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups of individuals.
Proper and acceptable legal techniques of passenger [physical] restraint when necessary as a final resort.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Safely operate bus, follow routes, adhere to established schedules, and observe all traffic laws and safety regulations.
Instruct students on safe rules and regulations while on board, during the ride, on proper loading and unloading techniques and of crossing the street.
Report student discipline/behavior issues to campus administration and transportation.
Communicates with office staff and/or parents on issues which, for the benefit of the student, require immediate attention
Attend district training as scheduled and required.
Document all accidents, vehicle damage, student injuries and mechanical failures and complete all required reports.
Keep assigned bus clean and fueled, check for mechanical defects before/after each operation, and report needed repairs to shop.
Ensure proper condition of emergency equipment such as first aid and body fluid kits, fire extinguisher, reflectors, seatbelts, car seats, etc.
Operate Communication equipment to communicate with transportation office.
Perform thorough pre- and post-trip inspections of the school bus, submit in a timely manner related reports and forms.
Demonstrate good attendance and punctuality.

Ability to maintain confidentiality of privileged and sensitive information.
Aid in emergency response rescue in the event of natural or man-made disaster.
Perform other related duties as assigned by Supervisory or Administrative Staff
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Driver of regular route school bus is charged with the responsibility of the students’ safety and well-being while students are in route and otherwise in the custody of transportation services.
Equipment Used:
Type C school buses
Two-way radio for communication with dispatcher and other buses, various emergency equipment included in each school bus
Electronic time clock
Working Conditions:
Maintain emotional control under stress.
Daily attendance and punctuality at work are essential of the job.
Lifts/carries 10-50 pounds frequently, 50-60 pounds occasionally, more than 60 pounds infrequently with assistance.
Pushing/pulling 10-70 pounds sporadically.
Safely operate bus, including steering, operating pedals, opening/ closing doors, within confined space of driver’s seat.
Evacuate bus through confined space of emergency exits.
Continual sitting, walking climbing or reaching and repetitive hand and arm motions.
Occasional bending stooping, bending kneeling.
Work outside and inside, around vehicles and exposure to extreme temperatures.
