Job Summary
Assists in the planning, administering, monitoring, and evaluating of the day-to-day operations of a small Family Store with a limited staff ensuring compliance with established policies and procedures; processes, displays, and prices donated items to ensure a maximum financial return on the sale of store items; assists customers in a polite and friendly manner; prepares store displays that are attractive, neat, and orderly; rotates and re-stocks store merchandise to ensure quick turnover; ensures the accountability and security of all store items and funds; may serve as a supervisor and/or lead worker to volunteers and/or subordinate store personnel.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of effective and efficient methods for organizing and maintaining records and ability to perform the same.
Knowledge of the principles and practices of retail store management.
Knowledge of the principles and practices of effective customer relations.
Ability to evaluate overall store operations in order to detect deficiencies and implement appropriate corrective action.
Ability to price donated merchandise reasonably and fairly.
Ability to present a positive and professional image of The Salvation Army.
Education and Experience
High School diploma or G.
E.
D.
and One to two years supervisory experience working in a retail store environment, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Certifications:
Valid State Driver’s License
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions
Ability to meet attendance requirements.
Ability to read, write and communicate the English language effectively.
Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing including the providing of clear instructions to employees.
Ability to perform mathematical computations.
Ability and willingness to conduct all duties in accordance with the ministry of the organization and its Christian principles; conducts all communications and job duties with the highest level of professionalism.
Duties are performed by frequent walking and/or standing, kneeling, or squatting relieved by lesser periods of sitting or operating a vehicle.
Moderate amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting, moving, and carrying objects (25 lbs.
or more) frequently.
Working Conditions:
Work is performed in a normal retail store environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather but may include warehouse conditions associated with store operations or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
