gov) Position Description Oversees a group of technical employees responsible for the analysis, design, construction, inspection, installation, timing, repair, maintenance and testing of traffic systems, Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) and related components.
Manages or supervises technical and administrative employees.
Work requires contact with governmental and private entities.
Employees at this level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives.
Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence.
Essential Duties: Develops operating procedures for traffic control, ITS, illuminations or systems equipment installation, maintenance and repair Develops short- and long- term plans for upgrading and modifying traffic signals, signs and illumination systems; coordinates with district design staff to develop solutions to traffic problems.
Directs inspection of the work of traffic systems and ITS technicians.
Investigates background of public complaints concerning traffic signal and illumination problems; recommends solutions and provides information on progress to solve problems.
Oversees specific traffic systems-related programs.
Prepares, coordinates and monitors consultant contract administration for traffic systems and ITS.
Troubleshoots and develops solutions for problems with traffic signals, illumination devices, traffic systems and/or data collection systems.
Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: Education: Bachelor's Degree in any discipline.
Relevant work experience may be substituted for degree on a year per year basis.
Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications Experience: 2 years construction, electronic troubleshooting, electrical construction/installation, electromechanical, traffic systems maintenance/management, transportation engineering, design, or related experience.
(Experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated parttime equivalent).
Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis.
Must have 1 year supervisory/managerial experience.
Project leader or lead worker experience may substitute for supervisory/managerial experience.
Licenses and Certifications: Valid driver’s license.
This position requires driving a state vehicle.
