The City of Victoria has an exciting opportunity for the position of Traffic Control Manager for the Public Works & Engineering Services Department! The successful candidate will be responsible for the maintenance and operation of the City’s traffic control system including signals, signs, and markings.
Determines needs and formulates solutions for traffic control operations including equipment installations, traffic signal timing and signal system operations.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Supervises traffic control operations crews for maintenance of traffic control signals, signs, and markings.
Assists traffic engineering consultants on project studies.
Supervises and conducts inspections on traffic control related projects.
Responds to complaints and traffic situations to formulate responses.
Conducts managerial duties including correspondence, meeting with managers and department directors, purchasing, and budget related items.
Checks and reviews need for maintenance of traffic control devices, assigns work, schedules jobs, and checks job progress.
Performs personnel related duties such as performance evaluations and discipline.
Makes field revisions to construction plans and submits changes.
Schedules, monitors and evaluates the work of Traffic Control / Signs personnel.
Trains and supervises crews in the appropriate installation, repair and maintenance of traffic signal equipment.
Supervises work in progress of the traffic signal unit and sign shop.
Tests equipment to ensure proper working conditions.
Responds to emergency calls regarding non-working traffic signals.
Maintains inventory on supplies and equipment used to repair traffic equipment.
Picks up and delivers parts and/or equipment for traffic equipment maintenance.
Maintains records of work performed using an electronic work order system.
Enforces safety rules and performs duties in a safe and orderly manner, complying with all City and department safety rules.
Subject to after hour and weekend call out work.
Regular attendance at work and arrives on time.
Performs all other job-related duties as assigned or as become apparent.
Ability to get along with other employees and the public.
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS Ability to sit, stand and transport self from building to building.
Ability to drive a vehicle to and from various work sites.
Employee will work in seasonal temperatures bending, kneeling, twisting and climbing.
Employee will be exposed to dirt, dust, mud, noise, odors, and fumes.
Employee can be exposed to mechanical, fire, chemical, electrical, construction and/or traffic hazards.
Ability to lift 50 pounds occasionally.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Knowledge of traffic regulations.
Knowledge of Texas MUTCD requirements.
Ability to utilize computer applications to develop and implement traffic control strategies.
Ability to develop and implement traffic control improvements.
Ability to read and understand materials including memorandums, plats, plans, specifications, maps, deeds, field notes and legal descriptions.
Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing.
Skill in math.
Technical knowledge of electrical and mechanical analyzing and repairing.
Ability to write documentation of work, reports, work orders, material requisitions, and maintenance records on equipment.
Ability to get along appropriately with co-workers and the public.
Minimum Education, Experience and Certification: Associates Degree from an accredited college or university and four years of related experience; OR Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university and two years of related experience.
Supervisory experience in traffic operations.
Skilled in Microsoft Word and Excel.
Will also consider equivalent combination of experience and education, which provides the knowledge, abilities and skills required for the job.
Valid Class C Texas driver’s license with driving record that meets City guidelines.
